Protest

Muslims and non-Muslims around the world, from London to USA, have staged protests against the war in Gaza.

Cape Town held a march on Jan 7, while Durban held one on Jan 9. Port Elizabeth Muslims, in conjunction with Stop the War Coalition, held pickets at strategic spots on Jan 9.

Port Elizabeth Muslims and other concerned organisations like Stop the War Coalition, Cosatu and ANC will hold a march for Palestine on Saturday 17 January 2009. March will start at 10:00 am from Hi-Q at Greenacres and will end at Mount Road Police Station.

Other towns can also arrange peaceful demonstrations.

Here is the manifesto of the march:

The Coalition For Peace have called for a Protest March in the Port Elizabeth area on Saturday 17th January 2009 and request that the SABC please cover the event.

The Protest march covers the following aspects:

The Coalition of Peace will march and call on Israel to immediately cease fire and withdraw from Gaza
That the world no longer stands by watching innocent men, women and children lose their lives at the hands of bully states, but that the International Community stand up and make their voices heard.
That our country lead by example and impose sanctions on this Israeli apartheid regime.
That people educate themselves about the plight of the Palestinians which has been going on for years.
That we stand united as humans irrespective of our religious, national or political differences in defence of those being oppressed.

The protest march will start at 10:00am on Saturday 17th January 2009. The starting point will be at Hi Q, opposite Greenacres and will end at grounds opposite the Louis Le Grange Police Station, where we will hand over a memorandum.

Guest Speakers will include The Palestinian Ambassador, a representative from the ANC & a representative from the Muslim Ulemah.

The whole procedure should last a maximum of 2 hours.
